What Federal Law Puts on the Sticker
Every new Lexus sold in the US carries a sticker because of 15 U.S.C. § 1232, passed in 1958. The carmaker must list the VIN, the final assembly point, the dealer receiving the car, the suggested retail price, every option's price, transport and the total, plus NHTSA's crash ratings or a statement that the car hasn't been rated. Section 1233 makes removing or altering it before delivery an offense: up to $1,000 and a year in jail for each car. After delivery the rule stops, and most used cars lose theirs.
