This Privacy Policy applies to CarCheckerVIN (carcheckervin.com), a service operated by CognifyX Solutions LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company with its registered office at 1209 Mountain Road Place Northeast, Albuquerque, NM 87110, USA.

1. Information We Collect

When you use CarCheckerVIN, we may collect Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) you submit for decoding, basic usage data (pages visited, features used), and contact information if you reach out to support.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to provide vehicle history reports, improve our service, respond to customer inquiries, and ensure platform security. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Data Sources

Vehicle data is sourced from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), manufacturer databases, and the Auto.dev API. This data is publicly available vehicle specification information.

4. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain site functionality. No advertising or tracking cookies are used without your consent.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure data storage practices.

6. CarCheckerVIN Mobile App

This policy also covers the CarCheckerVIN app for iOS. The app collects the email address you enter so we can deliver your report, and your purchase history so we can restore reports you have already paid for. VIN barcode scanning happens entirely on your device using the camera: camera images are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone. Vehicles you save to your shortlist or Garage are stored locally on your device. If you turn on recall alerts, we check public NHTSA recall data for your saved vehicles and the notification is generated on your device. In-app purchases are processed by Apple, so we never receive or store your payment card details.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your report and the email address it was delivered to for as long as you need access to what you purchased, and as long as tax and accounting law requires. You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time: in the iOS app under Account, choose “Delete my account & data”, or email contact@carcheckervin.com. We confirm the request by email, then remove your sign-in, your personal data, and any unused report credits, which cannot be restored. Purchase records that we must keep for tax and accounting are retained with your personal details removed. Deletion cannot be undone.

8. Service Providers and Data Sharing

We share data only with the providers needed to run the service: vehicle history data providers (ClearVin, and Vincario for European vehicles), payment processing (Stripe, and Apple for in-app purchases), email delivery (Resend), and hosting and database infrastructure (Vercel, Supabase). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide their service to us and to give it the same or equal protection described in this policy. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

9. Children’s Privacy

CarCheckerVIN is intended for adults buying, selling, or owning a vehicle. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
