Quick Answer

How much does MonroneyLabels cost?
$9.99 one-time per VIN, the same on its iOS app. Its FAQ says that buys the window sticker "including every VIN-specific feature and option on your vehicle". Dealers are billed per VIN decode, with no subscription.
Does MonroneyLabels have my car?
It says it has sticker data for "100% of U.S. cars for our covered brands", from set model years: Porsche from 1990, Nissan 2001, Subaru 2003, Kia 2007, Mercedes-Benz 2008, Hyundai 2009. Cars built for other markets usually aren't covered.
What if MonroneyLabels has no data for my VIN?
You get a list of the option packages that were available so you can tick off what the car has. Its FAQ says to email for a refund if you're unhappy. For brands it doesn't cover, it builds a non-VIN-specific sticker for cars made after 1981, filled in by inspecting the car.
Getting a window sticker by VIN

Four steps to the right sticker for the car

The order matters: coverage first, money last.

  1. 1Read the VIN off the carUse the dashboard plate, not the listing. One wrong character is a different car.
  2. 2Check brand and model yearPaid services list the brands and first years they hold real data for.
  3. 3Rule out an importA car built for another market usually has no US sticker on file.
  4. 4Original or replicaPay for the original where it exists; build a free replica where it doesn't.

What MonroneyLabels Sells

A Monroney label is the window sticker federal law requires on every new car: make, model and VIN, the final assembly point, the delivering dealer, the suggested retail price, each factory option and its price, the transport charge and the total, plus NHTSA's crash ratings where they exist. Once the car is sold, the paper usually goes missing.

MonroneyLabels.com rebuilds that sticker from the VIN. You enter the VIN on the site or scan it with its mobile app, see a free preview of what it found, and pay $9.99 one-time to see the full sticker. The preview lists MSRP, optional equipment and pricing, engine and transmission, standard equipment and safety features.

When you may not get the original

  • Brand not covered: you get a non-VIN-specific sticker.
  • Older than its first year: a checklist of packages instead.
  • Built for another market: usually no US data at all.
  • Not a history report: no accidents, owners or title brands.

When MonroneyLabels Can't Find the Sticker

Its covered-brands page lists the cases where a covered car still has no data: the manufacturer isn't supported on its platform; the car was built for sale outside the US market; a special-order show car that never got a sticker; a car too new to have one yet; a motorcycle; an incomplete, partly built vehicle; an invalid VIN caused by a manufacturer error. For any of these you get a checklist of the option packages that were available rather than the original entries.

Its FAQ says the most likely reason a covered car comes back as a checklist is that it was built for sale outside the US, and that if you are unhappy with the purchase you can email for a refund. App Store purchases are refunded through Apple.

How MonroneyLabels Bills Dealers

Its FAQ says dealer accounts are billed per VIN decode, with no monthly subscription and no contracts. A decoded VIN is yours to reopen for free. On monthly billing, dealers are charged only for cars with full sticker data, shown as a green light, and not for incomplete ones unless they fill in the spec sheet themselves.

For dealer websites it offers a window-sticker icon that decodes a car when a shopper clicks it, a daily inventory feed from providers such as vAuto or Homenet that fills in mileage, stock number and used price, and a browser extension for vAuto. Its phone line is (843) 837-3700.

MonroneyLabels vs a Free Replica

The difference is where the prices and options come from.

MonroneyLabels

  • $9.99 one-time per VIN
  • MSRP and factory options from its VIN data, for covered brands
  • 43 brands, each from a set model year
  • Checklist instead when no data exists
  • Dealer tools: website icon, inventory feeds

Our free sticker maker

  • Free, no account
  • VIN fills the fields NHTSA's decoder returns
  • MSRP, options and colours typed in by you
  • Any make, including ones no service covers
  • Printable replica, not the original entries

A replica is only as accurate as the figures you enter. Use the original where it exists.

Can a Dealer Remove the Window Sticker?

Not from a new car before it is sold. Under 15 U.S.C. § 1233, anyone who willfully removes, alters or makes illegible the label before the car is delivered to its buyer can be fined up to $1,000, jailed for up to a year, or both, and each car counts as a separate offense. Carmakers that fail to attach or fill in the label face fines of up to $1,000 a car.

The rule stops at delivery, which is why used cars rarely still have theirs, and why services like MonroneyLabels exist.

MonroneyLabels — Frequently Asked Questions

Price, coverage, refunds and dealer accounts.

Is MonroneyLabels legit?+

It is a working service that publishes its price, the brands and model years it covers, the cases where it has no data, and a refund route by email. Whether it has your car depends on the brand and year, which you can check before paying.

Is MonroneyLabels free?+

The preview is. The full window sticker is $9.99 one-time per VIN, on the website or the iOS app.

Does MonroneyLabels have Tesla window stickers?+

Tesla isn't on its covered-brands list. For brands outside the list it produces a non-VIN-specific sticker for cars built after 1981, which you complete by inspecting the car.

Why did MonroneyLabels give me a checklist?+

Its FAQ says that happens when it has no sticker data: usually because the brand isn't covered or the car was built for sale outside the US. It says to email if you're unhappy, for a refund.

Do dealers pay a subscription?+

No. Its FAQ says dealer accounts are billed per VIN decode, with no contracts, and only for cars it has full data for.

Is a window sticker the same as a history report?+

No. A sticker shows how the car was built and priced new. A history report shows what happened after: title brands, NMVTIS junk and salvage records, insurance total-loss records, odometer readings, and auction records with the damage the auction recorded and its photos. Ours is $14.99, with a free preview.
