Quick Answer

How do I get a Subaru window sticker by VIN?
Through a paid VIN service, MonroneyLabels.com (Subaru from 2003, $9.99) or VIN Analytics ($9.99), or as a free replica from our sticker maker, where you add the prices yourself.
What does a Subaru window sticker show?
Price first: the MSRP and every factory option with its own price. Then the final assembly point, the first dealer, NHTSA's crash stars where assigned, and the EPA fuel economy label.
Which 2026 Subarus are electric?
EPA's 2026 file lists 3 electric Subarus: Solterra, Trailseeker and Uncharted. The Uncharted has the longest rated range, 308 miles. The Crosstrek and Forester also come as hybrids, at 36 MPG and 35 MPG.

What a Subaru Window Sticker Tells You

For a Subaru, the sticker settles the questions a listing often blurs: which trim the car is, which option packages it was built with, and whether it was built for the US market. The packages are where two Outbacks or Foresters of the same year differ most.

In the 2026 range it also tells you whether you are looking at a gasoline, hybrid or electric Subaru: EPA's file has all three, from the WRX at 21–22 MPG to the Solterra at 117–120 MPGe.

Not on any Subaru sticker

  • Crash history: the label predates the car's first owner.
  • Owner count: it ends at the receiving dealer.
  • Title brands: those come from state title records.
  • Accessories added later: only options on the car at delivery appear.

2026 Subaru EPA Ratings by Model

EPA's 2026 file lists these Subaru models and powertrains. Each row gives the spread of combined ratings across that model's versions, which is where the label figure will fall.

Subaru VIN Prefixes (WMI)

A Subaru VIN starts with one of these 6 codes. NHTSA ties each World Manufacturer Identifier to a manufacturer entry and a vehicle type.

JF2SUBARU CORPORATIONJapanMPV (SUV, crossover)

NHTSA vPIC, read 23 October 2026. The country is NHTSA's entry for the manufacturer; the sticker's final assembly point names the plant for a specific car.

What Federal Law Puts on the Sticker

Every new Subaru sold in the US carries a sticker because of 15 U.S.C. § 1232, passed in 1958. The carmaker must list the VIN, the final assembly point, the dealer receiving the car, the suggested retail price, every option's price, transport and the total, plus NHTSA's crash ratings or a statement that the car hasn't been rated. Section 1233 makes removing or altering it before delivery an offense: up to $1,000 and a year in jail for each car. After delivery the rule stops, and most used cars lose theirs.

Built in the US or Japan? What the VIN and Sticker Say

NHTSA lists two sets of Subaru prefixes: 4S3 and 4S4 under Subaru of America in the United States, and JF1, JF2, JF3 and JF4 under Subaru Corporation and Fuji Heavy Industries U.S.A. in Japan. The prefix tells you which manufacturer entry the car was built under.

The window sticker goes one step further. Its final assembly point names the plant, so on a used Subaru it confirms where that particular car was built, which the first three VIN characters alone don't always pin down.

Original Subaru Sticker vs a Free Replica

Buy the original for a negotiation; a replica is enough for a listing.

Where These Facts Come From

The label rules come from the US Code, the ratings from EPA, the VIN prefixes from NHTSA, and the sellers' coverage from their own pages.

Read on 23 October 2026. EPA adds versions to a model year as they are rated, and sellers change coverage, so check both before relying on a figure. CarCheckerVIN is not affiliated with Subaru, MonroneyLabels.com or VIN Analytics.
